Trimble Adds Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Software for Pocket PCs to its GeoExplorer Series of Rugged GPS Handhelds
SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 3, 2004 -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that its GeoExplorer® series of rugged GPS handheld receivers is now available with Microsoft® Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs, making the GeoExplorer the industry's first Windows Mobile handheld with fully integrated GPS.
Trimble's GeoExplorer series continues to set the industry standard for integrated GPS and Geographic Information System (GIS) field computing with the addition of Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs. Windows Mobile provides GIS users high quality GPS and the flexibility to choose from the most comprehensive range of field software to meet their needs, whether off-the-shelf or custom-designed. In addition, the GeoExplorer series offers Bluetooth® wireless technology, delivering true wireless connectivity for easy data flow between the field and the office.
"Windows Mobile is the industry standard operating system platform for PDA devices," said Alan Townsend, vice president and general manager for Trimble's Field Solutions Division. "By adding it to Trimble's GeoExplorer series of rugged handhelds, we're giving our users many more options and increased flexibility. The open architecture of Windows Mobile offers a robust GPS platform for mobile GIS users resulting in a faster and more efficient exchange of data from the office to the field and back."
Standard Microsoft applications, including Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket Internet Explorer and Pocket Outlook, deliver improved productivity by allowing synchronization of files, appointments and tasks with an office PC.
With the introduction of Windows Mobile, Trimble is including a complimentary copy of the Microsoft Streets & Trips 2004 software for the U.S. and Canada or AutoRoute 2004 for Europe. These popular software packages contain comprehensive up-to-date maps, street data, points of interest and localized travel information for easier navigation and route planning.
Trimble's GeoExplorer series handhelds are versatile, rugged GPS handhelds for the GIS professional. A Trimble GeoExplorer GPS handheld combines the power of an open computing platform, a high performance GPS receiver with integrated Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS) capabilities and Bluetooth wireless technology - all in a lightweight handheld.
Featuring advanced color display using Thin Film Transistor (TFT) technology with 16 bit (65,536) color and a multi-stage backlight, the GeoExplorer series provides clear and crisp display of full color raster images and vector maps in all outdoor conditions. Additionally, 64MB of RAM enables users to run GIS software programs faster with larger data sets, maps and background imagery.
With the GeoExplorer series, the user can select the option that best suits their needs. The GeoXM provides 2-5 meter accuracy and integrates reliable, real-time corrected GPS into a mobile GPS handheld so users can relocate assets with confidence and fulfill work orders more efficiently.
The GeoXT offers all of the features of the GeoXM, plus a submeter GPS receiver and Trimble's unique EVEREST multipath rejection technology. The GeoXT is ideal for working in difficult environments such as under canopy, in urban canyons or anywhere high-accuracy data collection and maintenance is required.
For maximum productivity, the user can choose Microsoft® Windows®-based GIS field software such as ESRI's ArcPad® with Trimble's GPScorrect software extension, Trimble's TerraSync software or other purpose-built field software that meets their specific requirements.
The GeoExplorer series with Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PCs is expected to begin shipping April 26, 2004.
